Since the strategy of sustainable development was put forward, the "ecological productivity "has gradually become the "focus" in theoretical circles. It has also become the "research hotspot". Especially with China’s attention to ecological civilization, ecological productivity research has continued warming. Scholars have conducted extensive and in-depth discussions on this "hot issue". They also made a number of innovative research results. But long-term since, academic cicle has certain one-sidedness in understanding Marx’s productivity theory. Many people think that Marx has not thought of ecology. In fact, this is a kind of "misunderstanding" for Marx’s productivity theory. While Marx did not have focused on the ecological problems, but his works contain rich "ecological elements", for example, the idea that nature is the base for human survival and development; the idea that people and nature are exchanging material; the thought that natural productivity and social productivity is a unity; the idea of material recycling; the thought that science and technology also has ecological function; the idea that human and nature are good friends; and so on. These ideas clearly reflect the ecological connotation of Marx’s productivity theory. In fact, Marx’s ecological thoughts sporadically scattered in various periods of his works. They can even be regarded as "hidden clues" throughout Marx’s works, which always needs us to explore. At present, the ecological environment is deteriorating. In this situation, we should try to dig in the "ecological factor" in Marx’s thought and "carry forward " them in the new era. Marx productivity theory’contemporary transformation from tradition to ecology is the meaning of constructing Chinese ecological productivity. Marx’s ecological thoughts also have important guiding significance for the practice of constructing socialist ecological civilization today.
