Taking advantage of Chinese market economy system reform in recent ten years, more and more Chinese enterprises are becoming bigger and stronger, from the initial small workshops rapidly developed into collectivization enterprise. There are more and more Chinese group enterprises appear on the world’s top500enterprise list. The rise of China collectivized corporation is the result of the rapid ascension of China’s overall economic strength. From another point of view, collectivized corporation is the deciding factor for the rapid and healthy development of China’s economic. However, the depressing fact is that there is significant gap of enterprise management level between the group enterprises in China and in developed countries in Europe and America. The core of enterprise management level is the performance management level. To participate in international competition, group enterprises in china must improve the effectiveness of performance management. In order to study the methods to improve the group enterprise performance management effectiveness in China, this paper starts from the understanding of the measures of performance management, reviews the generation and the development process of performance management theory, and makes a thorough analysis for four main performance management theory, including target management theory (MBO), KPI theory, the balanced scorecard theory (BSC) and one EAV theory, and obtained their respective applicability and effectiveness. On this basis, the authors not only analyzed the current situation and existing problems of performance management in group enterprises in China, but also analyzed the reasons lead to this situation from three aspects, including Chinese ways of thinking, understanding of performance management in Chinese group enterprises and the current objective conditions of group enterprises in China. Then, with more than ten years of work experience on performance management, through the comprehensive analysis mentioned above, the author proposed preconditions and problems that should be paid attention during the implementation of performance management by the Chinese group enterprises, and eventually made the conclusion of the improvement of the effectiveness of performance management in the Chinese group enterprises. The author thinks that for the group enterprises in China, they should not directly choose one of the four types of performance management theory as its management mode, but should take the ideas of "learn widely from others’strong points and take them for oneself use", integrate the contents of the four performance management theory applicable for Chinese group enterprises, and custom-make a new performance management mode conforming to the actual situation. The conclusions made in this paper include two parts, i.e. organizational level of performance management and individual level of performance management, which are explained and analyzed in detail. Then, through the case analysis of performance management in Van’s department store Co., LTD under Dalian Wanda Group, this paper further proved the correctness of the above conclusions. Finally, to sum up the above analysis, the author put forward expectations for the future performance management in Chinese group enterprises.
