| Economic growth is driven by the factors input and efficiency, focus only on the elements of the input is not enough; factors input alone cannot promote sustainable economic growth. Another way of economic growth is to improve production efficiency. A measure of the current regional production efficiency, contribute to a clear understanding of economic growth is to rely on elements increased investments or rely on the efficiency.Based on the data of Real per capita GDP, labor force, capital stock, financial expenditure share of GDP, the urbanization rate, the secondary industry accounted for the proportion of GDP, total exports to GDP ratio, the use of the stochastic frontier model based on trans-log production function estimates the level of technical efficiency of Jiangsu’s counties between1993-2009. On this basis, the use of regression analysis to analyze the factors affecting the technical efficiency of the counties in Jiangsu Province; using kernel density estimation method, describe the distribution of the counties in terms of technical efficiency; and then analyze the evolution of the spatial clustering pattern of the counties in Jiangsu, the time node are1993,1998,2003,2009; trends of changes Jiangsu Province and the southern, central and northern Jiangsu region in the time seriesThis paper measures technical efficiency between65counties (cities) of Jiangsu and decomposes the growth rate of TFP (Total Factor Productivity) to technical efficiency, technology progress and scale economic. Based on it, this paper analyzes the relationship between TFP and economic growth, then classifies the economic growth patterns of65counties (cities) into four categories according to the speed of TFP and economic growth, and finally discusses the spatial divergence of TFPs and economic growth rates among65counties (cities).The findings of this study show:(1) Southern Jiangsu technical efficiency was maintained above0.9, which was the highest, technical efficiency of Northern Jiangsu was the lowest.1993-2009, average technical efficiency of the various regions was decreased in varying degrees, Southern smallest decrease and northern had the largest decline, down by35.31%. Within the Southern areas technical efficiency was more balanced, while within the middle and northern areas there was a differentiation.(2)Urbanization rate, the proportion of secondary industry in GDP, the ratio of exports and GDP are important factors for efficiency improvement, but government intervention are harmful to efficiency. (3)Regional growth rate of total factor productivity was increased; the average growth rate was3.42%in southern Jiangsu,2.53%in middle Jiangsu,1.47%in northern Jiangsu. But the various regions of the growth process were significantly different. TFP growth of the southern Jiangsu was steady, while the variation of TFP in the middle and northern Jiangsu was big. TFP growth was mainly due to technology progress. The rates of technology progress were all greater than3%and its contribution rate all bigger than100%. Technical efficiency of southern Jiangsu to TFP growth with minimal impact, technical efficiency change of northern Jiangsu made great impact on TFP growth rate which contribution rate was-188.66%.(4)1993-2002, total factor productivity growth was not related with the level of economic development, the region with low level of economic also had higher TFP growth. Nor does it have a correspondence with the county’s geographical location, the global Moran’s index of growth rate of TFP was0.3316, spatial autocorrelation was weak.2003-2009, northern and middle Jiangsu had got rid of inefficient growth, spatial autocorrelation of growth rate of TFP was significant and its global Moran’s index was0.7174. |
