Manufacturing is the pillar industry of the national economy development, the transfer ofrural surplus labor force, the main channel of employment, and a concentrated expression ofthe regional competitiveness. The development of the manufacturing sector determines thechange in the pattern of economic development and industrial structure optimization andupgrading. Although the manufacturing industry of Guizhou Province has made considerabledevelopment since reform and opening up, the development is also accompanied by manyproblems, such as: internal imbalance of industrial structure; Industry scale is too small toform industry cluster effect.; The slow development of high-tech industries; Capability ofindependent innovation is weak; Excessive energy consumption and serious environmentalpollution problems. Therefore, studying the dynamic changes of the manufacturing totalfactor productivity in Guizhou Province and the contribution is of important practicalsignificance to understand the development of the manufacturing industry in GuizhouProvince, and promote the development of the manufacturing sector.Technological progress is a source of economic growth. Total factor productivityanalysis is the measure of an industry in the period of time a comprehensive index ofeconomic efficiency. In this paper, a comprehensive comparison of various method ofmeasuring total factor productivity, the Solow residual method to the study of changes in totalfactor productivity of Guizhou Province Manufacturing2003-201130industries, and thencalculated the labor input, capital investment, the whole factor productivity contribution tooutput. The study found that on the whole, between the years of2003-2011manufacturingtotal factor productivity in Guizhou Province has been greatly improved, but changes in totalfactor productivity is relatively large, almost fluctuating trend. The contribution rate of TFP tooutput increases, and the contribution of total factor productivity and capital on output hasbeen accounted for the vast majority of the contribution of labor to output less. From theindustry classification point of view, the high-tech manufacturing, the high concentration ofindustry, the highest contribution rate of total factor productivity of the resource processingindustry output, low degree of concentration of the industry, high-tech manufacturing, andtextile manufacturing TFP to production the lowest contribution rate. Some conclusions basedon an analysis of the dynamic changes of Guizhou Province, total factor productivity, but alsoput forward a number of policy recommendations.
