Latecomer, which mainly in developing countries, are usually less competitivecompared with those in developed countries, for their shorter history and relativelybackward technology. China is currently in the transition from "made in China" to"created in China", and the latecomer firm has become the main force of it.Technological capability, playing a key role in the transformation from a manufacturingenterprise to a innovative one, is usually reflected by the quality and quantity ofenterprise patent; thereby, patent licensing has become an important strategy taken bymultiple latecomer firms to maintain the competitive position in the market.Technical ability of latecomer firms is in the ever-lasting evolution. With disparatetechnical capabilities, both sides of patent license’s bargaining strength change, so thefinal result of the bargaining varies. Thus, investigating patent licensing strategies oflatecomer firms of different development levels dynamically will be a major focus ofthis thesis.Focusing on single patent product, this thesis made a research on the patent licensestrategy of the latecomer firm, modeling from the dimensions of the number ofparticipants and technical capability: Participants are divided into two "one to one" and"one-to-many"; technical ability is discussed on static technical capability and dynamictechnical capability respectively:In the case of "One to one": When there is nocompetition between the two participants, the exclusive licensing equaling the ordinarylicensing, only the exclusive licensing need to be considered.(1) build the patent licensestrategy model of the latecomers when the licensee’s technical capabilities remainsunchanged.(2) the optimal strategy during the joint development of patent technologywhen the licensee has the dynamic capability of improving the licensed technology,. Inthe case of "one-to-many",there is competition among latecomer firms in the marketunder the ordinary licensing method:(1) build the patent license model when thelicensee has the static technical capability of improving the licensed technology, patentlicensing strategies is given Under different parameter selection.(2) the building ofpatent license model with dynamic technical capability. At the condition of no technical overflow effect cases between two latecomers, R&D alone is better than that ofcooperative research and development results.
