The rapid development of China’s urbanization process led to the rapid growth offossil fuel-based energy consumption, environmental pollutants such as carbondioxide emissions increased year by year, and the resulting global warming and otherenvironmental issues are increasingly severe, more and more researchers began tofocus on how to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions in the process of urbanization. However, along with the rapid advance of urbanization in China, the development ofthe process of industrialization, coal-based fossil energy consumption will continue toincrease, the resulting carbon dioxide emissions will continue to increase, theresulting carbon dioxide emissions will rise further, this also means that China’scarbon reduction facing international pressure will be increasing. At present ShandongProvince is the largest of the carbon dioxide emissions. Under such a situation,“therelationship between urbanization and carbon emissions in Shandong Province”,thesis topic, the relationship between urbanization and carbon emissions in ShandongProvince, as well as the impact of urbanization on carbon emissions the mechanismfor the theoretical analysis and empirical research, not only to grasp the abatementpolicies direction in Shandong Province, to ensure the urbanization health ofShandong Province sustainable development of practical significance for the better tograsp the overall situation of China is of great significance. This paper contains five parts. The first part introduces the background, purposeand significance. On the basis of consulting research literature of domestic andinternational, research ideas and research methods are determined, innovations arealso raised; The second part is the theoretical basis of this article, the paper introducesmechanism of impacts between urbanization and carbon emissions; The third partcomprehensive uses modern econometric methods and techniques such ascointegration theory, error correction model, Granger causality tests, impulse response function and variance decomposition to time series, to analysis the dynamiccorrelation between Shandong Province urbanization and carbon emissions; Thefourth part uses Kayad identity and its extension introduced the urbanization factors tobuild multivariate linear regression model of the carbon emissions in the process ofurbanization in Shandong Province, and then ordinary least squares parameterestimation and regression equation model checking, last LMDI Techniquedecomposition analysis of influencing factors; The fifth part summarizes the researchresults comprehensively, points out the policy recommendations. The empirical results show that the level of urbanization is the Granger causality tothe carbon emissions, but the carbon emissions is not the Granger causality to thelevel of urbanization for Shandong province. There exists not only a one-way grangerrelationship but also a long-term relationship between urbanization and carbonemissions in Shandong Province. However, the role of correction is not prominent inthe long run, many other factors also affect the carbon emissions besides theurbanization. Decomposition model based on the Kaya identity, influencing factorsare energy consumption structure, energy intensity, per capita GDP and the level ofurbanization. By LMDI decomposition model, per capita GDP growth is the strongestdriving force for the growth of carbon emissions, the decline of energy intensity is themost important factor for inhibiting the growth of carbon emissions.
