with a late start, tourism industry in china has witnessed itself a rapid developmentand achieved a great success. Tourism enterprises spring up like mushrooms comparedwith the situation when the beginning of reform and opening up was implemented atfirst. According to statistics, there are26446travel agencies,303Service Corporation oftour guide,and657044tour guides in2011in China. However, the service level oftourism is decreasing while the scale of tourism is growing fast. It is especially typicalwith the travel agencies, which take a leading position in tourism industry. As the bondof stakeholders of tourism and the services, the quality and the level of service play adecisive role in presenting the quality and level of the whole industry. Yet it is acommon phenomenon that “no tips for the tour guide”,“tour guide leaving the touristsbehind”,“kickbacks from the tourists’shopping”, which makes the highest complaintsamong the tourism enterprises. The major reason for the problem above is theunreasonable wage system. These issues will not only impact the reputation of the travelagencies in the society, but also severely restrict the development of the tourismenterprises and the whole tourism industry in China.According to the statistics of the survey, the low wage system directly brings aboutthe series of the issues in the development of the travel agencies. A great number oftourism professional talents left because of the extremely low wages, bringing about thebrain draining, while those remain in the tourism sector have to make a living by sellingfake goods, cheating customer and seeking excessive profits in an inappropriate way.Service quality, the lifeline of the of the third industry is abandoned by the employeesnot out of their original intentions, which severely affects standardized management oftravel agencies and the sustainable development of tourism industry. Thus from my ownperspective, to break the bottle-neck of the development of travel agencies, the issue ofremaining the talents and the inspired wage system is the first priority. Under suchcircumstances, it’s of great importance to try to introduce the efficiency wages into the tourism enterprises.This thesis is intended to give a general introduction of efficiency wages theoryand service and management theory, taking the relative researches from home andabroad as a reference. By choosing the travel agencies, the most representative typeamong the travel enterprises, the thesis summarizes the status-quo of low wages of thetravel agencies in China and its impact. At the end of this chapter, the author brings upthe limitation of effect of the efficiency wages, supposing that in order to make full useof this system, other factors are required to be paid the same importance to, which is thecreative part of the thesis. In the end, the paper gives a full summarize of the key pointand major conclusion of the research, while pointing out the limitation and perspectivefor the development in the future, expecting to lay a basis for the future researches andsurveys.
