The Study Of Self-other Mate Choice

There is a hot topic in the field of decision, self-other decision making difference.The researchers found that decision-making for self is different from decision-making for others at the cognition and behavior, and decision-making for self is different from decision-making for distant other like a stranger, and is similar to decision-making for close other like a friend. But the studies of self-other decision-making difference often focus on risk decision-making, choice of occupation etc, while ignoring the study also can be expanded in mate choice.There are two kinds of mate choice for others, one is introducing mate to a familiar friend, the others is presenting mate for a stranger. There are two studies in the research, one is the difference between mating choice for self and for a distant other, the other is difference between mating choice for self and for a close other. This research selects125undergraduates,63males (age M=21.97, SD=1.50),62females (age M=21.53, SD=1.68), taking the eye tracking technology with good ecological validity to study their differences in the mate preferences and mate mechanisms. The findings are as follows:(1) In the condition of enough time, male and female use integrative model to choose mate for self and others.(2)The inclination of women to using integrative model in choosing mate for self is more stronger than choosing mate for others (including choosing mate for a stranger and for a friend). In contrast, the inclination of men to using integrative model in choosing mate for self is less stronger than choosing mate for others.(3)Male pay more attention to the appearance than female when choose mate for self, female choose mate for strangers paying more attention to the appearance than choosing mate for self.(4) female is more cautious and thoughtful than male when choose mate for self and for friends, while when choose mate for strangers, female tend to reduce the cautiousness.The above research, expands the self-other decision making difference research field, also enriches the mate choice field. And provide guidance for male and female mate choice.
