With the successfully30-year carrying out of China’s reforms, China’s enterprise forms and management have changed greatly, the management ability of various types of enterprise has had a relatively large increase. But at the WTO, the competitions that Chinese enterprises are facing become increasingly complex; the competitive pressures have gradually increased. And especially with the emergence of new Internet Economy in recent years, Chinese entrepreneurs, government departments, and academic theorists are recognizing that Chinese enterprises must first close the gap of management ability with foreign enterprises, to carry out revolutionary changes in the management. Enterprise information construction and reforms are the fundamental of these changes.The thesis topic selection is based on the background that the ERP selection, implementation and application of SMEs lack efficient methodology, there are a lot of failure cases. The thesis stems from the practice of daily work and research, so it has an important value on theoretical and practical application. The paper first describes the achievement and status of ERP related fields in recent years in China and other countries, as well as different patterns of ERP application, risk management, ERP applications, ERP selection, implementation, and the knowledge transfer of ERP. Secondly the paper discusses the values of the ERP for SMEs:ERP brings advanced management eidos to small and medium enterprises to implement international standards, close the gap of management ability and improve the quality of management; The strictly process management of ERP can help SMEs to enhance efficiency, reduce operational costs and increase competitive advantage; ERP can support for e-commerce, information mobile, business intelligence and other new applications, also can quickly realize the transformation of business model for SMEs. The latter part of the paper uses a case study of the Small and Medium Computer Equipment Manufacturers FJ Technology Company, to explore ERP application and implementation issues in SMEs. The study gives an analysis that FJ Technology Company needs to change from the product-oriented production model to demand-oriented production model, how the company reduces production costs through the ERP system, improves customer satisfaction, and acquires its core competitiveness. The study covers the entire ERP project approval and initiation, selection, implementation, maintenance and support. At last the study concludes that keys to the successful ERP application and implementation for SMEs are:reasonable business needs, a comprehensive change management, good management foundation, right products and the right implementation strategy.With the following features:rich materials, accurate icons, a rigorous logic, insightful, the thesis provides plentiful academic and practical guidance to the ERP implementation and application of SMEs.
