Western Region Manufacturing Industry Agglomeration And Its Influencing Factors

Supporting the development and construction of the western region, realizing thecoordinated development of the eastern region, is an important policy of nationalleading economic work and an important strategic task of China’s modernization drive.It requires the western development for developing the new type of industrialization,focused on quality and efficiency of industrial development. Industrial cluster is animportant carrier to realize the new industrialization, it can form regionalcompetitiveness through a variety of ways to reduce the cost, improve the industrialchain development, promote technological progress, improve efficiency, then promotethe regional economic competition ability.This paper defines the definition and classification of industrialagglomeration,reviewed the industrial agglomeration location theory, comparativeadvantage theory, industrial location theory and new economic geography, and theresearch results of domestic and overseas scholars on industrial agglomeration.Secondly,by using location quotient and geographic concentration index, we researchednationwide total concentration trend of the western provinces and cities,manufacturing industry in western regions, the distribution of the geographicconcentration of manufacturing industry and the manufacturing industryagglomeration.Again, this paper introduced the shift-share analysis to analyze the causeof the manufacturing industry in the western region agglomeration of agglomerationcause and provincial manufacturing with the food manufacturing industry and InnerMongolia as an example.And then we analyzed western manufacturing factors ofindustrial agglomeration through the panel data model. Finally, we puts forward somepolicy suggestions based on the data as the foundation, combined with the actualdevelopment of the western region.Through the above research, this paper gets the following conclusions: First, fromthe view of the overall distribution of western manufacturing industry, the developmentof the manufacturing industry in Sichuan Province has an obvious advantage in thewestern region,the development of Guizhou,Ningxia and Qinghai manufacturingindustry is relatively backward. Second, the degree of agglomeration of themanufacturing industry are not the same, various provinces and cities have differentadvantage industry. Third, using the shift-share analysis,the paper provides a new wayto study single provinces and a single manufacturing industry cluster with the foodindustry and the Inner Mongolia as an example. Fourth, the influence factors ofagglomeration of manufacturing in western region were studied. From the regression results, the four factors of economic development,external industry, openness of region,taxintensity has a remarkable impact on the manufacturing industry. Fifth, combining withthe development situation of manufacturing industry of the western region, we putforward the following four suggestions: adjusting the industrial structure, promoting thedevelopment of manufacturing high quality; promoting the coordinated development ofthe western region combined with the various provinces and cities advantage industry;servicing for industry agglomeration; expanding foreign trade and encouragingenterprises to "go out ".
