The Domestic Technological Content Of China’s Manufacturing And Its Influencing Factors

As for a country’s economic devolepment, what matters is not how much itexports,but what it exports,especially how much was exported by itself.However, withthe rapid development of China’s foreign trade, domestic relevant debate is alsoincreasing: Have China’s foreign trade structure, export technical level and nationalcompetitiveness also improved in the process? Such of the debate was mainly causedby the existence of export processing trade, people do not know, once the processingtrade considered, whether China’s export technical level have really improved.This paper calculates manufacturing sector’s export sophistication and domesticexport sophistication from1992-2009with taking into account the processing trade.China’s manufacturing sector exports of composite technology complexity, technicalcomplexity and the local technical complexity index and the domestic use of the1999-2009panel data study of manufacturing FDI to China’s manufacturing exports tothe technical complexity of the industry degree of technical complexity and localimpact, results showed: China manufacturing sector and the domestic content ofcomplex technical content of technology during this period showed a rise after thefirst drop of the U-shape.For complex high-tech industry, the domestic technologyindex is generally low contribution of domestic technology, in particular, which wasregarded as the representive of China’s export of high-tech industries-electronics andcommunications equipment manufacturing industry, the domestic contribution was thelowest. For different types of industry, contributions to changing trends in differentdomestic technology, labor-intensive and resource-intensive industries experienceddomestic technology index rose after the first drop shape, and technology-intensiveindustries in general and domestic technology index words in a downward trend. FDIfor the complexity of composite technology industry has a positive effect, and mayrise after the first drop is a non-linear relationship, while domestic exports for thesame degree of technical complexity has a positive role in promoting.
