The Impact Of Export Sophistication On Total Factor Productivity

In the international trade environment, developed countries export high-tech products while developing countries export low-tech products During there years, China has acquired revealed comparative advantage in the export of both labour-intensive products (following its factor abundance) and sophisticated products, and then achieved a rapid economic development. The study of trade, as if from quantity to quality, the complexity of the proposed exports, providing convenience for the trade research. At the same time, total factor productivity is an important indicator of the quality of economic growth, in this case, it has important theoretical and practical significance to clarify the relationship between sophistication and TFP.This paper describes the theoretical beginning of the sophistication of the relevant export main theoretical models?the evolution of effects and economic effects, on this basis, interaction mechanism from the enterprise level, including:self-selection and learning effect of the export enterprises and external economic effects of export business to non-exporting firms, as well as other mechanisms of action.On the basis of theoretical research, outlined the measuring method of sophistication and total factor productivity, and selects the appropriate method in this paper. Then, described the sophistication and TFP of the world's major exporting countries in the sample period. Subsequently, using year 2000 to year 2013,81 export countries' trade data and other required data, to empirical analyse the relationship between sophistication and TFP by panel data. Finally, we found a positive correlation between sophistication and TFP, and the results are robust. In addition, we also get a natural resource endowment and productivity to a significant negative correlation, which is consistent with most of the findings. FDI also showed a negative correlation with TFP.According to the conclusion above, this paper put forward some views and suggestions to help improve our industrial structure?enhance the level of export sophistication in case of better serve China's economic development. Mainly include use the existing comparative advantage industry?develop "dynamic comparative advantage" indust? promote central and western regions to integration into the international market rely on the eastern region.
