Land use/land cover change is the area in which nature and human activities have most close connection. It is the specific embody of the relation between mankind and nature. Land use/land cover change not only relates with the global climatic change, ecological environment evolution and the reduction of the biodiversity but also is one of the main reasons that cause unbalanced global carbon cycle. And land use/land cover change will be the dominant factor of global change for a long period. With the rapid progress of urbanization and industrialization, the problem about the population, resources and environment in our country is becoming seriously day by day. It has become the core question of sustainable development. With the rapid development of the technique of remote sensing and GIS, and the proposition of Promotion of Ecological Civilization Strategy, it is essential and urgent to dynamically monitor land use/land cover via remote sensing and GIS. The dissertation is based on the research subject of the carbon sequestration parameters remote sensing monitoring of North China, which was undertaken by Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research, CAS. In this paper, the idea of object-oriented image analysis was adopted. Taking Beijing as a study area, with Landsat TM (ETM+) images as data sources and with the help of eCognition, ArcGIS, ERDAS IMAGINE, the dynamic change land use/land cover in2001-2009was studied. The main research achievements are summarized as follows:1) On the basis of data preprocessing, Beijing land use/land cover information of2009was extracted via object-oriented image classification.2) Using object-oriented change detection method, change detection between the TM (ETM+) images of2001and2009was carried out. After the extraction of change information, image of2001within the region where land use/land cover has changed was classified. And then, by means of data-updating, Beijing land use/land cover information of2001was acquired.3) The land use/land cover of Beijing from2001to2009was analyzed from some aspects like land use/land cover conversion matrix, change dynamic of land use/land cover and the extent of land use.The results show that forest is the main type of land use/land cover in Beijing. Forests covered51.04%of the study region in2001, and it increased to52.93%in2009. Construction land area increased significantly, it increased2.54%. Besides, meadow and unused land increased in various degrees. Cropland and water areas tend to decrease. A great amount of croplands have been lost, the area of which was decreased by856.66km2. During this period, the reciprocal transformation between each land use/land cover type of Beijing is remarkable. The land use structure is in a stage of quick adjusting and instability. The comprehensive change trend and state index of land use/land cover in Beijing is0.76, which is close to1. For all the land use/land cover types in the study area, one-way transformation is the main form. All the land use/land cover types have great change dynamic degree except unused land.
