At present, land use and cover change is the hot issue of common concern all around the world. The interpretation of land use changes is improved step by step via model research, which is a basic way to research the mechanism of land use changes, as well as the target of the mechanism. Academia has always been committed to build a model, which are integrated natural environment factors with socio-economic factors about land-use pattern of formation and evolution. In Wageningen university, Netherlands, the "land-use change and its effects" group with PHVerburg as the leader, developed CLUE (the conversion of Land Use and its Effects) model, in order to achieve the above requirements.Applying to small region, the CLUE-S (the conversion of Land Use and its Effects at Small region extent) model was developed based on CLUE model, and was applied to a lot of regions, by a wide range of concerns. The CLUE-S model was used to simulate the land use spatial distribution in Yangzhou Metropolitan Area. And then the accuracy was evaluated to confirm whether the model was adapted to the area, so the local planning department could frame the layout. In this paper, combined with remote sensing technology, firstly the preprocessing was implemented, including geometric correction, image mosaic and subset. Secondly the two land use distribution maps in Yangzhou city were obtained using object-oriented classification method to extract information from high-resolution images. Finally, the corresponding model parameters were set, driving CLUE-S model, to obtain the land use spatial distribution maps in 2001 and 2007 respectively. And then the land use map in 2007 extracted previously was compared to the simulated result in 2007, evaluating the accuracy. The paper was focused mainly on two aspects: object-oriented classification method used to interpret remote sensing imagery, the research of CLUE-S model. While interpreting imagery, a lot of experiments were done to ensure the optimal segmentation parameters, and imagery traits applying to different land use types. In allusion to CLUE-S model, the basic principles were researched. In according to the requirement of CLUE-S model, the simulated land use maps were got and evaluated its usability.
