The problem of the traffic jam of Beijing is not only affecting the life of the urbanresidents seriously, but also opposes city operations severely.Road traffic construction ofall these years has already stated that increasing the transportation supply simply cannotease the traffic jam situation, so the scholars have paid attention to the TransportationDemand Management (TDM) gradually. Beijing is making construction of the roadnetwork, increasing the bus service, moreover, transport demand management is taken suchas curbing the purchase of vehicles for private use, increasing parking fees and makingstaged rush hour plan. This article will evaluate those transport demand managementcarried from May2008to April2010.This paper is composed of three parts:The first part, the situation and the problems of the transportation demand managementof Beijing. The situation is composed of two parts:one is the description of the situation ofthe traffic demand and supply and the traffic operation situation. The second one is thedescription of the situation of the management of the traffic demand, including themanagement which is taken already and the relative laws and regulation,means,mechanism and etc.Second part. I have selected some representative transport demand managements toanalysis the mechanism of action and evaluate the effectiveness. By selecting data fromMay2008to April2010,I maked performance evaluation of the transport demandmanagement taken during the Beijing Olympic Games and analysised limitations of themanagement that has been taken.Third part,I have maked rational improvement suggestions, including improvementthe old city functions, increasing employment and living center in the city fringe, andemployment center in the new town.The innovation point of the paper lies in: by selecting transport demand managementtaken during the Beijing Olympic Games making performance evaluation and calculatingthe Mixing rate of entropy index of land use of city districts and counties. What’s differentfrom the former, this paper suggests through adjusting the mixed degree of land use, toreduce the traffic demand, including improvement the old city functions, increasingemployment and living center in the city fringe, and employment center in the new town.
