Gross domestic product (GDP) after decades of development, on a global scale to get the promotion and application, but also gradually revealed its inherent defects. Questioning and criticizing of GDP has never been stopped. National experts, scholars, therefore, in view of the defects of GDP, guided by the sustainable development thought, try to revise GDP or to build a set of index system of sustainable development,Genuine Progress Indicator is one of them. GPI is a set of accounting system used to measure the state of health of a country’s or a regions’economic operation and real level of its public welfare. It started earlier in foreign countries, the research has been widely used, thus accumulated a wealth number of research results and practical experience.In our country, the state of health of economic operation and the real welfare of people are always the focus of attention, but the related research and practice of GPI are few.Aiming at this situation, this article focuses on the practical situation of GPI in foreign countries and discusses its application in our country.This paper depend on the basic theory of GPI, has made a thorough analysis of the situation of GPI application in the United States, Canada, Australia and Great Britain. On the basis of the comment on the development of GPI in foreign countries, concluding several enlightenments of GPI application in our country. This article take Sichuan province as an example, try to specific applicate GPI and finally calculated the GPI in2010in Sichuan province as a result, through the analysis of the results we’ve come to the conclusion that GDP can’t reflect the actual welfare level of people.The function of increasing of forest coverage rate, recessive earnings, and education investment to the promotion of welfare are worth our attention;And the cost of less leisure time, social problems and environmental damage need our attention and make improvement.These results in the first place can clearly reflect the outstanding performance and existing problems of Sichuan province in economic, social and environmental aspects;Secondly, to provide certain reference to relevant government policies’formulation and implementation.Taking Sichuan province as the beneficial trial of GPI research, based on this, we provide some policy Suggestions the future application of GPI in our country: using the concept of scientific development to promote GPI accounting.Attaching great importance to the policy guidance function; establishing standardized systems, laws and regulations; Extending to government performance evaluation, and actively to pilot, etc.These Suggestions have strong guiding significance and providing beneficial help of GPI promotion and application in our country in the future.
