| In recent years, there are more and more corporations joining in the international trade underthe policy of "gonging out "and "bringing in". The encouragement of policy and the huge marketcapacity bring another developing opportunity for many companies. Superficially, the enterpriseshave advantage in time to enter the international market and compete with other companies, butthere are still many enterprises which did not and did not want to enter the international market. Why some enterprises choose to export, but some other enterprises in the same industry not? Thetraditional trade theory cannot explain this phenomenon because they always stay in the perspectiveof industry.From1995to2003, Bernard with many other economists did a lot empirical analysiswhich showed that the export companies are more outstanding than the non-export enterprises inmany aspects. Melitz proposed Heterogeneous Enterprises Trade Model in his paper in2003, whichexplained what corporations will choose to export, what influence the export bring on thecompanies and what welfare can be gained from export. It is concluded that the enterprises withhigher productivity will choose to export. From now on, the view of the papers about the tradetheory has begun to change to the base of micro-economy for international trade. Simultaneously, one argue came about the relationship between productivity and export between the scholars withthe development of theory. One part of them support that the enterprises with higher productivitywill choose to export, and the others have the idea that the export make companies have a higherproductivity. There are many empirical studies on this argue, but little is based on the domestic dataand there are different conclusions. Consequently, this paper collates the relationship between theexport and productivity which is based on the research results of the pre-scholars and lays thefoundation of the below empirical analysis. Then we analyzed and disposed the characteristics ofthe Chinese companies, which include the properties and export proportion of the enterprises. Then,we quantitatively calculated all the coefficients by setting multivariate regression model, whichshows the relationship between then productivity and export. In view of the difference between theindustries, we then check the model at the level of industry. The results show that the hypothesis ofthe self-selection and learning by export are all reasonable. Finally, we give suggestion to the policyof government about foreign trade. |
