Milling cutter whose structure determines the degree of milling efficiency is a tool of achieving high efficiency in metal cutting. So how to design high efficient and reasonable milling cutter rapidly is an important safeguard of improving the efficiency of metal milling and base of moving forward constantly of machinery manufacturing. With the continuous development of machinery manufacturing industry, there are more and more types of milling cutters.With continuous development and application of metal-cutting technology, the design of the cutter has a higher requirement. The design of modern tool designed not only to ensure accuracy, but also to ensure the efficiency of milling design. Parametric design for tool design in the design process has been widely used for this. The development of finite element design method provides basis for the promotion of parametric design. Design rationality of tool is verified with the most efficient and the performance of tool is made evaluation theoretically, and these conclusions are carried out with actual cutting experiments finally. Therefore, the structure of high cutter, parametric design and finite element analysis provide important theoretical and practical significance for improving cutting efficiency and quality. The main study contents of this paper are as follows:On the basis of analyzing the characteristics of milling and the current situation of milling tool design, the parametric design of layer face milling cutter is proposed. The parametric design of several layer face milling cutters is completed on UG secondary development platform.Finite element analysis is done for some typical cutters been completed. On the platform of ANSYS finite element software, cutting stress, tool deflection, cutting load and other information are obtained by setting particular workpiece material. And mode and other features are obtained by doing static analysis. These finite element analysis conclusions verify design rationality and provide basis for follow-up of the milling experiments.The design rationality and structure superiority of layer face milling cutter is verified with comparative experiments. By cutting workpiece set with finite element, such as variation of milling force information is obtained. The conclusion of the surface machined with layer face milling cutter is better than with general face milling cutter. The conclusion of parametric design is verified with experiments, which provide the basis for subsequent optimization of the structural parameters of high efficient cutter.
