Because of the1,8-naphthyridine derivatives with good coordination propertiesand the special N-hybrid conjugate π electronic structure, it has attracted wide rangeinteresting.1,8-Naphthyridine derivativeshave displayed potential application in avariety of fields, such as the fluorescence sensor, solar-energy conversion, supramolecular assembly, the nonlinear optical materials, optical moleculardevicesand so on. Ruthenium(II) complexes with d6electronic structure exhibitmetalto ligangd charge-transfer (MLCT) spectroscopic properties, and they havesignificant photochemical and photophysical properties upon excited state.Ruthenium(II) complexes have good stability and long excited-state lifetime, therefor, ruthenium(II) complexes such as [Ru(bpy)3]2+can be used asphotocatalyst andphotosensitizerin photochemical conversasion reaction.Based on the advantages, wedesign and synthesis three1,8-naphthyri-dinederivatives ligands and their threeRu(II)complexes, and investigate spectoscopic properties of these compounds. Theresultsshowed that they have fine photoluminescence propertiesand fast spectralresponse to some metal ions.1. The obtained ligands (L1-L3and complexes C1-C3) were structurallycharacterized by1HNMR and MS.2. Spectral properties of the synthesizedligandsmay bechanged with the additionof acid or base, and absorption and emissionspectra displayed a significant red-shiftswhile the Cu2+or Ni2+ions were added to the compounds solution.3. In addition, the spectral properties of Ru(II) complexes can be changed whilethe Cu2+or Fe3+ions were added to their solution. The results showed that Ru(II)complexes can recognizeCu2+or Fe3+ions, addition of acid or base can lead to thechanges of emission enhancement.4. An investigation of CO2photocatalytic reduction usedRu(II) complexesC2,C3as photosensitizerwas also performed.
