Three types of fluorine-containing polyurethane-acrylate block copolymers weresynthesized by iniferter method in this research. After the modification by fluorinatedacrylate, the surface properties of polyurethanes were improved, and thehydrophilicity of polyurethane materials developed into hydrophobicity.Firstly, tetraphenyl-ethanediol was prepared in the experiment; then thepolyurethane macroiniferter was prepared by using tetraphenyl-ethanediol,diisocyanate and polyether diol as raw materials; finally, fluorine-containingpolyurethane-acrylate block copolymers which were initiated by the polyurethanemacroiniferter were synthesized by polymerization of hexafluorobutyl acrylate usinginiferter method in organic solution. The structures of copolymers were characterizedby FTIR and1H-NMR; thermal properties were analysed by TGA; relative molecularweights were calculated by GPC; water contact angles of polymer films weremeasured to reflect surface property; micro images were obtained by SEM and TEM;and the elements contained by polymer films’surface were tested by EDS.The properties of polymers synthesized by diverse polyether diols or differentdosages of fluorinated monomer were compared, and the modification effects wereanalysed. It has found that the thermal property and hydrophobicity of polyurethaneswere notablely improved. Macro phase separation has become more complicated.More over, the surface migration of fluorine was proved. The results indicate that inpreparation of fluorinated polyurethane iniferter method is more convenient andeffective than core-shell emulsion polymerization as to the control of insertingpositions of fluorinated monomers and relative molecular weights of polymers. Thesynthesized fluorine-containing polyurethane-acrylate polymers are prospective to beused as hydrophobic materials.
