As people’s awareness of environmental protection is increasing, more attention isfocused on lightweight vehicles. Due to its high strength and light weight, high-strengthsteel has been applied to the production of automotive components. As a part ofhigh-strength steel production line, laser cutting is directly related to the performance ofthe workpiece.Firstly the3D models of B-pillar and anti-collision beam are measured throughphotography. Then by selecting the correct entry point, fixing local normals and adjustingthe process parameters, the efficiency and quality of laser cutting is improved. Then a newthree-dimensional laser cutting offline programming method with robot is put forward. With the new offline programming method the interference position will be informed inadvance.A six axis robot with400W fiber laser is used to cut on the hot stamping steel ofWH1300HF. Using three factors and five levels of orthogonal experiments, the relaitionbetween cutting power, speed, auxiliary gas pressure and the kerf width, fringe spacing, dross height, roughness of the surface are analyzed. Then the optimum process parametersare determined and used. Results show that90%of the measurement points deviation isless than0.6mm.Finite element method is used to predict the temperature distribution and surfacemorphology under different cutting process parameters. The experimental data measuredis consistent with the prediction. This paper presents a new cutting model, the reason forthe generation of stripes is explained.
