Furniture is essential to our daily life not only on functioning indoors but part of indoor displaying design. Fabulous furniture is not just functional but also a piece of fascinating object of art. In Hans J. Wegner’s whole life, he had been experienced the dynamic age through the industrial revolution and Second World War from 1914 to 2007. Under the impact of Modernism, he did not swim with the stream he still insisted on Danish traditional culture and his own personal design philosophy. He successfully transformed the traditional furniture into the modern style and this is why Hans J. Wegner is admirable. Furthermore he created some furniture with Scandinavian characteristic and marketed it around the world. This research tried to find the solutions to the modern Chinese furniture on how we inherit and develop from the spirit of Ming Dynasty’s furniture from Hans J. Wegner’s design.The purpose of this research is on discussing with the thinking, background, and characteristic of Hans J. Wegner. Try to analysis the characteristic of furniture from the roots of thinking, cultivation of culture and judgment of beauty. From this research, I thought that China is being as good as other countries on the aspect of techniques, roots of culture and China’s own advantage on Chinese long history but vary from Hans J. Wegner’s design on passing down the classical furniture design. I also found that imitation of classical furniture on modeling and functioning is not sufficient. We should combine with the roots of society, economic and thinking.Therefore, this research based on the Hans J. Wegner’s design factors of exploration on the way of design, core of humanity, the learning from other culture and inheritance of own culture on discussing the inheritance of classical furniture.
