In this thesis, self-assembly of seven arenesulfonic acids, three N-heterocyclic molecules and different cadmium(II) salts leads to the formation of 22 Cd(II)-arenesulfonate complexes, which exhibit diverse 0D, 1D, 2D and 3D network structure and they are characterized by elemental analyses, IR, single crystal X-ray diffraction, TG, PL and so on. Structure analyses indicate that the ortho-hydroxyl can not only enrich the ability of sulfonate groups, but also improve the coordination ability of sulfonate groups to cadmium(II) cations, thus leading to the formation of high dimensional coordination polymers. The large conjugate system of the N-heterocyclic molucules is beneficial to the formation of extensive π···π and anion???π which can entrich the dimension of the complexes. Meanwhile, the differences between the two kinds of ligands play an important role in constructing complexes and influence on the properties. In the cadmium(II) monosulfonate complexes, the chelation of the N-heterocyclic molecules limits the dimension of the complexes. In contrast, the limit of the chelation of the N-heterocyclic molecules is not obvious because of the more coordination sites of the disulfonic acid. However, the sulfonates with carboxyl and hydroxyl goups are more easier to form high-dimensional structures. Moreover, some of the cadmium(II) sulfonate complexes exhibit luminescent emission.
