Cross stitch is a common decoration at our present daily life, it not only appears in various interior architecture with different styles, the more is that used as a kind of entertainment and recreation, people use it to kill time and edify sentiment. With the increasing popularity of handwork cross stitch embroidery, computer embroidery machine emerge as the times require. On one hand, it can meet the production requirements of industrial automation, and on the another hand, it can also popularize the embroidery to clothing, shoes and hats. But computer embroidery machine have quality problems compared with the manual embroidery. Then how to realize the automation of cross stitch products and at the same time guarantee the quality of hand embroidery are the current problems that need scientific research person to resolve. Therefore, to design a cross stitch machine that can simultaneously satisfy the above requirements has an important meaning and value. Accoroding to the existing problems, in reference to the large number of related literature at home and abroad, this paper mainly carries on the overall design of the cross stitch embroidery machine, it can realize imitating handmade embroidery cloth movement in the cross grid. In addition, this paper has a system, deep and detailed research on how to achieve accurate positioning of the embroidery needle. Finally realizing the overall design of cross stitch machine and the positioning of needle embroidery.In order to ensure the embroidery needle to locate the cross grid accurately, improving the positioning accuracy, this paper applys the technology of image processing to the cross stitch embroidered fabric. Geting cross stitch panoramas, after denoising and gray processing, conducting the edge detection, this paper presents improved canny edge detection algorithm, it makes the irregular cross grid feature into a closed ring, it has better effect of edge extraction, which lay a good foundation for the subsequent specific position cross grid.Besides,this paper presents an improved Hough algorithm to obtain the circle. According to the characteristics of the cross stitch embroidered fabric, in combination with the current research on the given radius detection of multi-circle and unknown radius detection of single round Hough algorithm at present, studys the multi-circle detection of unknown center and radius, putting forward the new algorithm for circle houg transform to detect, realizes the coordinate of the circle center detection of embroidered cloth cross grid.Using the camera calibration solves specific positioning embroidery needle. For the improved Hough transform to extract the coordinates of the center of embroidered cloth cross grid, through the MATLAB calibration kit realizes the image acquisition center convert to the actual coordinates in the world coordinate, controlling motor to realize the accurate positioning of the embroidery needle. At last, this paper proposes some shortcomings of the study which will be improved and perfected in the future.
