With the improvement of people’s environmental awareness and concerns for their own health problems, the use of traditional phthalate plasticizers was limited. Epoxy plasticizer becomes a research focus as non-toxic, green, renewable and environmentally friendly plasticizer. In this paper, the synthesis process of a new type epoxy plasticizer (epoxidized pentaerythritol oleate) was studied. And the synthesis process of raw materials (pentaerythritol oleate) was also studied.Firstly, take the pentaerythritol and oleic acid as raw materials, chose dibutyltin oxide as catalyzer, made a study for the esterification. And optimized by single factor experiments in this reaction.The optimum scale of crude material was that the mol scale of oleic acid and pentaerythritol was 4.1:1, the mass of dibutyltin oxide was 0.8% of oleic acid, reaction temperature 170℃, reaction time 4 hours, the efficiency under these conditions was more than 95%. The obtained product was characterized by FT-IR.Then take the pentaerythritol oleate as material, with sulfuric acid as catalyzer, made a study for the epoxy reaction of pentaerythritol oleate. Some factors that had influenced on the epoxy value of product, such as reaction temperature, reaction time, the mass of acetic acid and hydrogen peroxide were discussed.The optimumed condition was that the mass of hydrogen peroxide was 70% of pentaerythritol oleate, the mass of acetic acid was 20% of pentaerythritol oleate, the mass of sulfuric acid was 1% of pentaerythritol oleate, reaction temperature 60 ℃, reaction time 6.5 hours, under these conditions the epoxide number was more than 4.2%, iodine value was less than3.5g · (100g)-1.Then acetic acid replaced formic acid, took ion exchange resin as catalyzer, discussed the influence of reaction temperature, reaction time, the amounts of formic acid and hydrogen peroxide on the epoxy value of product, and optimumed by orthogonal experiments. The optimumed condition was that the mass of hydrogen peroxide was 70% of pentaerythritol oleate, the mass of formic acid was 15% of pentaerythritol oleate, the mass of ion exchange resin was 1%of pentaerythritol oleate, reaction temperature 60℃, reaction time 6 hours, under these conditions the epoxide number was more than 4.6%, iodine value was less than3g · (100g)-1. The obtained product was characterized by FT-IR.An annual output of 1000 tons of epoxidized pentaerythritol oleate production were designed, and the main equipments were selected and calculated, the structure diagram of reactor was draw. Workshop equipments were furnished according to the principles of plant layout and lists of equipment were proposed. The flow charts with control points were drawn at last.
