The goal of this dissertation was to study the properties and morphology and ageing properties in the Titanium dioxide(TiO2) reinforced polystyrene(PS) composites s. It contributed to severals compatibilizers which were efficient on improving the morphology and mechanical properties of TiO2/PS composites.PS was one of the most important general-purpose thermoplastic polymers widely used in various fields such as automobile industry, electric appliances, packing and construction industry etc. But poor toughness and brit tleness in low temperature and low impact strength and products easy to crack restricts its application because of internal stress of PS. TiO2 was one of the most important white inorganic material with excellent properties, for instance, non-toxic, good weather resistance and the low price, which was proved to be the reinforcement. The main problem of preparation of TiO2/PS composite was poor mechanical properties because TiO2 and PP was incompatibility. Because of importance of TiO2 and PS in practice, compose of the two materials containing specific properties were both theoretical and practical issues.PS-MAH, BMI(bismaleimide), PS-MAH/BMI could promote the mechanical properties of TiO2/PS composites s. PS-MAH and BMI could produce the chemical bond and hydrogen bond in the interface to improve the interfacial adhesion respectively. PS-MAH/BMI, PS-MAH and BMI could make synergistic effect to improve the interfacial adhesion.The results were obtained by studying the influence of compatibilizer on the morphology, mechanical properties and melt flow rate of TiO2/PS. Now our work as follow:(1) The results showed that the mechanical properties of TiO2/PS composites s reached the maximum value when the content of TiO2 was 1.5%.With the increase of TiO2 content, TiO2/PS composites etiolation degree was slow, anti-aging performance had improved.The MFR(melt mass flow rate) of the composites was decreased as the addition of TiO2.SEM showed that plenty of TiO2 extracted in the interface of TiO2/PS composites s, which illustrated the interfacial incompatibility of TiO2 and PS.(2) The PS-MAH as the compatibilizer could enhance the interfacial adhesion of TiO2/PS composites. The tensile strength and MFR of the TiO2/PS composites s was increased obviously as added PS-MAH compatibilizer, while the impact strength of the TiO2/PS composites s had little change. The tensile strength of TiO2/PS composites reached maximum value when the content of PS-MAH was 20%. But the content of PS-MAH in the TiO2/PS composites exceeded 20%, the mechanical properties had not increased.(3) The results of added BMI showed that BMI improved the compatibility o f TiO2/PS composites. The mechanical properties and MFR of TiO2/PS composites raised a lot. The tensile strength of TiO2/PS composites s was maximum value when the content of BMI was 1%. As the BMI content increased, MFR of composites s were increased and then decreased. The composite materials appeared to turn yel ow and anti-aging performance increased.(4) The tensile strength and impact strength and MFR of TiO2/PS composites s were increased sharply when PS-MAH/BMI as couple compatibilizer was added. While the content of PS-MAH/BMI in the TiO2/PS composites was 20%, the properties of TiO2/PS cmoposites had the maximum. SEM results showed that the compatibility of TiO2/PS composites with couple copatibilizers were the best compared to the morphology of different compatibilizing TiO2/PS composites.
