In mould industry, laser hardening could not only significantly improve surface hardness, wearing resistance and corrosion resistance, but also optimimize performance of mould and extend its service life. However, these advantages have also brought tremendous difficulties to the finishing process of laser hardening surface, such as irregular freeform surface, high hardness and local difference of hardness.In order to deal with the difficulties, our group put forward the soft consolidation pneumatic wheel finishing process method. This paper has research on the mechanical properties and contact performance about the abrasives layer of pneumatic wheel. We predict the elastic modulus of the abrasives layer by microstructure mechanics. And analysis the contact of the abrasives layer based on the G.W model. Finally we use ANSYS and experiment to analysis the contact performance. The main contents of this paper include the following aspects:1) Based on microstructure, analysis the mechanical properties of compound material and the influence of the size of mixed grain. Establish prediction model of elastic modulus about the abrasives layer. And predict the elastic modulus of the abrasives layer with different abrasive ratio. In order to prove the prediction model, have a tensile test to the abrasives layer by using Instron tensile testing machine. We can compare the experimental values of the tensile curve and the prediction to get the result.2) Based on the G.W model, establish the contact force model of the abrasives layer about the pneumatic wheel. According to the model, we analysis the main technological parameters in the abrasives layer contact model, analysis how the press amount, elastic modulus and inflation pressure affect the contact performance of the abrasives layer by ANSYS. Make sure the impact factors of these technological parameters. Then we simulate the contact stress distribution and the contact performance of different curvature. Thus, we can conclude which parameters can make contact stress better, what is the difference between different curvatures of the mould.3) Build experimental platform of contact force test. Get the trends of contact performance in the different pressure amounts and different inflation pressure, in order to prove the correctness of the simulation. In the real-time measuring system of polishing process by pneumatic wheel, we find the target of how to make contact performance more stable: contact overshoot and contact vibration. Find the main technological parameters that affect the target.The research results have laid a theoretical foundation for predicting elastic modulus of the abrasives layer about the pneumatic wheel, and have actual reference by giving the main technological parameters and standard of the contact performance.
