Recoverable reserves calculation (RRC), a crucial procedure throughout oilfield exploration, production, and management, has been continuously studied by petroleum engineers. In china, the focus of RRC study is extending from technical recoverable reserve calculation to economical recoverable reserve calculation, which is influenced by rising global economic attention that petroleum companies want recoverable profit more than technical data. Therefore, that selecting appropriate algorithm, encompassing specific parameters, and optimizing computation software regarding profiles of respective reserves are the keys to recoverable reserves calculation. This project first reviews and analyzes factors of application conditions, development stages, and reliability of conventional technical and economical RRCs such as static empirical formulation, water drive characteristic curve methods, decline curve method, cash flow method, economic limit method, whose algorithms are modified based on literature and onsite experience; then designs a Windows-based RRC software using object-oriented C++programming, in which SQL Server and Excel are used as database,|and MFC is applied as visual interface package library. Eventually, this software is to be tested via actual data to highlight its accuracy, efficiency and easy access, thus validating potency of informatization and modernization in reserves management.
