In the paper, the cotton fabric was prepared to be macroinitiator, and used as dyed carrier, acrylic modified cationic dyes and KH570 modified Ti O2 pigment were used as graft marerial, which were grafted onto the surface of cotton fabric by atom transfer radical polymerization(ATRP) to endow fabric color, respectively. The influence of the amount of acylating reagent 2-bromo-2-methylpropionyl bromide and catalyst trimethylamine on the cotton fabric macroinitiator was studied. The infrared spectroscopy(ATR), scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy(EDS) were used to characterize and analysis the chemical structure and morphology of cotton fabric macroinitiator. Secondly, dye monomer and modified Ti O2 pigment were prepared, respectively. The cationic dye was added to the aqueous of acrylic to prepare the dye monomer. The Ti O2 pigment, which was produced through Ti O2 adsorping dye, was put into hydrolyzed KH570 solution to prepare the modified Ti O2 pigment. Thirdly, dye monomer and modified Ti O2 pigment were grafted onto the cotton fabric by ATRP to achieve dyeing, respectively. In the process, the influence of modified dye monitor amount, 2,2’-bipyridine amount, graft temperature and graft time were studied. And the infrared spectroscopy(ATR) and scanning electron microscopy(SEM) were used to characterize and analysis the chemical structure and morphology of grafted cotton fabric. Fourthly, the color fastness of grafted cotton fabric was not satisfactory, because the cationic dye was combined with acrylic via ionic bond. The triethoxyvinylsilane was added into the dye bath, which was grafted together with dye monomer on the surface of cotton fabric, was hydrolyzed and condensed into film to play the role of fixing. Fifthly, the UV induced grafting experiment was studied under the same reagent conditions to prepare the grafted cotton fabric with and without fixation via UV initiation. The infrared spectroscopy(ATR), scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy(EDS), color fastness tester, electronic fabric strength tester, stiffness tester, fabric style instrument, air permeability tester were used to characterize and analyze the chemical structure, morphology and wearability of grafted cotton fabric with and without fixation via ATRP and UV method, respectively. Sixthly, the difference on structure and properties of cotton fabrics between grafted with modified Ti O2 pigments and fixed with modified Ti O2 pigment with the help of AKS was discussed. The result shows that the optimal operation conditions of ATRP grafting were as follows. The amount of substance ratio between 2-bromo-2-methylpropionyl bromide and cellulose glucose unit was 1.5:1, the amount of substance ratio between trimethylamine and 2-bromo-2-methylpropionyl bromide was 1:1, the amount of substance ratio between acrylic acid and cationic dye was 5:1, cationic dye amount accounted for cotton fabric 30% o.w.f, the amount of substance ratio between 2,2’- bipyridine and Cu Br was 3:1, grafting temperature was 50 ℃, grafting time was 6h. The mass fraction of vinyltriethoxysilane was 20% in fixed dyed cotton fabric. In the spectrum of cotton fabric macroinitiator, the peaks at 1735 cm-1, 637 cm-1 were attributed to the characteristic peak of C=O and C-Br bond, illustrating the success preparation of cotton fabric macroinitiator. In the spectrum of graft-chromatid cotton fabric, the peaks at 1735 cm-1 and 637 cm-1 were attributed to C=O and C-Br bond, and benzene ring skeleton vibration absorption peak and C = N stretching vibration absorption peak appear from 1500~1600 cm-1, that proved the success preparation of graft-chromatid cotton fabric. In the spectrum of fixed dyed cotton fabric, the peaks at 762 cm-1, 1050 cm-1 and 1149 cm-1 were attributed to the characteristic peak of Si-C and Si-O-Si bond. In the SEM picture, the cotton fabric surface was significantly coated with a thin layer of silane coupling film, leading to better color fastness test. In the spectrum of cotton fabric grafted modified Ti O2 pigment, the peaks at 1735 cm-1, 637 cm-1, 498 cm-1 were attributed to the characteristic peak of C=O, C-Br bond and Ti-O-Ti, and solid particles on the cotton fabric surface were found in the SEM image. Marked Ti element in the EDS image displayed average distribution of Ti O2 on the surface and good decolorization performance under ultraviolet light. In this paper, cationic dye monomer and modified pigment were grafted onto cotton fabric surface using ATRP method, providing a new way of dyeing, broadening the range of dye carriers and dyes, and successfully achieving the heterogeneous graft via ATRP method.
