The low boiling impurities produced in the aniline production process cannot be removed completely and cost efficiently in the purification section, therefore a low boiling purge stream has to be maintained. This purge stream contains high concentration of aniline, and hence results in considerable waste of aniline. On the other hand, there is a stripping section in the process to remove aniline from waster water. This work integrated the two existing processes of treating aniline waste streams, eliminated the burning treatment of aniline, and proposed a novel process of integrated treatment of aniline waste water. On the same time of simplifying processes and equipment, it provided a complete reclamation of aniline in waste streams. Aspen Plus was employed to model the novel process. With the model, the feasibility of the novel process was verified by simulation, the process parameters were determined, and the practical scheme was designed. The implementation of the novel process has brought about substantial benefits in terms of safety, environment and finance.
