Common profiled diamond wheel is only applied to productions of carbide profiled tools with large scales and single-variety. While it can not be used for producing carbide profiled tools with small scales and muti-varieties in that different kinds of tools need different wheels. Therefore, the production of exclusive profiled diamond wheels has a higher cost than common. So far, the present methods of precision shaping exclusive profiled diamond wheel is by manual cut-and-try work generally. In that, the quality of the exclusive profiled diamond wheel depends on skills, experience and mood of workers and the function of the wheels can not be uniformized. Thus, a convenient, efficient and low-cost way to producing exclusive wheels is necessary for the industry of carbide profiled tool. According to the practical problem in enterprise’s production, the paper is proposed at the foundation of the research on advanced precise method of profiled diamond wheel and equipment which is presented by Xihua University and Chengdu FengYi precision manufacturing company.The paper has pointed out the problem that the present methods of producing profiled diamond wheel are inefficient, high-cost and low-precision based on the original EDM method of profiled diamond wheel as well as the principle and structure of the equipment of enterprise. To tackle this problem, the paper has proposed a new precision profiling method and equipment of profiled diamond wheel based on original. As for the new method, profiled graphite electrode is produced by real-time detection and control and the two axes linkage single-pole closed loop NC system, as well as profiled diamond wheels is produced and precision amended by EDM. The real-time image processing and acquisition system is adopted by new method, which can obtain the practical outline data of profiled graphite electrode or profiled diamond wheel which will be compared with theoretical outline data. The error of the comparison can be disposed and feed-backed to control system who will make compensation finally. The paper has an integrated principle scheme design on real-time detection and control as well as mechanical system of precision profiling on new diamond wheel, along with an integrated structure design according to function theory. The result of image acquisition research in the new equipment has proved the feasibility of the new precision method of profiled diamond wheel. Moreover, the structure design of mechanical system on precision profiling diamond wheel as well as a preliminary design of required control and software system has been made by advanced method.Above all, at the foundation that there are problems of original equipment on producing diamond wheel by EDM, the new precision producing method of diamond wheel has been proposed and systematic designed, which has solved the problem that how to produce profiled diamond wheel with small scales and muti-varieties efficiently, economically and conveniently as well as increased the productivity and accuracy of profiling diamond wheel. Besides, it has injected a flow of fresh vitality into technology development of diamond wheel precision production and contribute to the development of precision forming technology of diamond wheel.
