After entering in 21 th Century,and with the rapid development of electronic products, magnesium and magnesium alloy have been widely used in the field of electronic products. With the increasing of the magnesium alloy used, more countries started to increase on the magnesium alloy research and development investment.Magnesium alloy is good at electromagnetic shielding, high specific stiffness and strength, low density, rich resources etc. But magnesium alloy forming ability is poor, so that the cost of magnesium alloy products is increased and the efficiency is relatively low. With the advantages of low cost, high efficiency and short process, twin roll casting technology, has become one of the main directions of the future development of magnesium alloy.The most important part for twin roll casting process is flow distribuction system. whether the flow distribuction system is reasonable, directly determines the quality of magnesium alloy plate. This paper uses AnyCasting software to simulate the flow distribution system. When the optimized results of the numerical simulation of flow distribution is obatined, a model of organic glass model with 1:1scale was made for physical experiments, and finally the actual casting experiments were carried out using optimization designed distribuction system. The quality of casting has greatly improved. Finally come to the following conclusions:The feeding system for the roll casting process is crucial, directly determines the quality of twin roll cast magnesium alloy plate. An ideal flow distribution system can make the temperature distribution uniformly in the molten pool, and decrease the fluctuate of pool surface, which greatly effect the quality of roll casting sheet.Flow system can also play a uniform flow effects using the multistage distribution system, to reduce the impact of the molten pool surface. The first part feeding system adopts a cylindrical channel which reduce the heat dissipation area and control the flow rate; Part II, with 14 holes, and add the buffer chip on the upper molten surface, whcih can decreases the inpact of molten pool. The second distribution flow system is more stable and played the main effect of the flow distribution syste; Part III is an inclined 45 degree plate, which play a further role for uniform flow. The plate can slow down the velocity of molten metal, reduce the impact of the pool surface, and make the pool surface smooth and temperature uniform.The twin roll strip casting of magnesium alloy experimental results show that the magnesium alloy sheet quality was improved by using the optimized metal delivery system.
