Phenanthroline has extremely widespread application in the areas of chemistry since it has been synthesised. Phenanthroline has the structure of rigid planar, which containing two nitrogen atoms, could coordinate with metal ions. Due to it has good photostability, high coefficient of uv absorption, satisfied fluorescence quantum yield, excitation wavelength and emission wavelength located in the visible region, and other excellent physical and chemical properties, in recent years, the study of phenanthroline has been extend to a broader range of scientific fields. Because of these, makes phenanthroline and its derivatives turn into a ideal part of fluorescent probes. Phenanthroline and its derivatives containing large planar aromatic ring and other excellent physical and chemical properties, as well as many biological activities, it has become one kind of important anticancer compound.Most of the fluorescent probe based on phenanthroline is modified on 5, 6 position of phenanthroline. But we modified on 2, 9 position of phenanthroline,a new fluorescent probe for copper ions, 2,9-bis-benzothiazole- phenanthroline(PDBT), was designed and synthesized. Compared with NCP, the fluorescence quantum yield of PDBT is increased about 7 times. PDBT showed good selectivity to copper ions over many other metal ions, and high sensitivity with a low detection limit of 7.9×10-8 mol/L. The research of Job’s plot indicated that complex composition ratio of PDBT and copper ions is 1:1. And good recoveries were obtained when the probe used in the determination of copper ions spiked in commercial drinking water.Based on 1,10-phenanthroline platform and vinyl benzothiazole as side chain,crescent skeleton new molecular, N,N,-bis- vinyl benzothiazole-phenanthroline(PMBT), was designed and synthesized. It could interact with different DNA forms. And we investigated UV-Vis absorption spectrum, fluorescence spectrum and CD spectrum of interaction between PMBT with different DNA forms. The interaction modes between them are different.
