China is a big country resources, development and utilization of mineral resources is an important barometer of the national economy in recent years, China’s population and the economy in a significant increase in the consumption of metal products is growing, mineral resources demand will be explosive growth. China is a big country consumption of resources in our national economy metallic mineral resources occupy an important role irreplaceable,if there are problems which will affect the country’s economic health. Tailings are a dangerous source of man-made debris flow caused widespread rainfall in the summer rainy season the country increased, if the tailings once the dike, will result in no loss of village residents in exchange for their property and lives around. China’s tailings have a small amount of multi-mode characteristics and the use of the upstream dam type method resulted in poor stability. Tailings can bring economic benefits to the enterprise, and some even believe that the tailings are burden on businesses, thus leading companies reluctant to invest in the tailings, tailings enough emphasis on the management of tailings resulting in work fewer personnel, technology and equipment behind, security can not be guaranteed.Dry beach length tailings tailings dam will not only affect the safety of the ultra-high saturation line also affect the height of the tailings dam,but also determines the flood control capacity of the tailings, so to say, to ensure the smooth operation of the tailings would normally dry beach length key monitoring tailings. Based on the characteristics of the tailings design methods of computer vision-based dry beach length measurement and simulation laboratory experiments and field measurements to verify the actual feasibility of the method. This method has the implementation ofconvenient, the advantages of small measurement error, with a wide range of application. In this paper, using a video camera and a computer in real-time measurement of the length of dry beach tailings, which mainly consists of two parts:(1) preparation before measurement:calibration parameters and the sign post layout of the camera.(2) uptake of tailings photo camera equipment, using MATLAB software for region segmentation, the pictures taken are isolated dry beach area and reservoir water area,(3) to extract the sign post, according to the computer to calculate the parameters of dry tailings beach length...
