The problem of water pollution and protection has always been a hot topic in human society. Now the problem of water pollution is becoming more and more serious, so we are in urgent need of an efficient water environment monitoring system to stop this trend. The development of wireless sensor networks (WSNs) makes it possible to realize the water environment system.This paper studys the coverage problem of WSNs, and puts forward a parallelogram node coverage algorithm. This parallelogram node coverage algorithm breaks through the limitations of traditional coverage algorithm, and it guarantees that the number of nodes used to achieve full coverage is less than traditional algorithm. Also, the algoithm ensures that the WSN has a high coverage rate after the movement. The simulation results show that the algorithm can reduce the number of nodes and costs effectively, so the algorithm is more general than the traditional algorithm. In addition, we design a water environment monitoring system for WSNs on PC and android mobile platform in this paper. The system takes advantage of PC and android mobile terminal to realize remote real-time monitoring of water environment. The system is suitable for the monitoring of lakes, reservoirs and fish pondsand and has the following characteristics:wide working area, low cost, convenient operation and real-time monitoring, etc. The main work of this paper can be described as following aspects:(1) This paper studys the coverage algorithm of WSNs, and analyzes meshing algorithm, genetic algorithm, PEAS algorithm, partial-coverage algorithm and pattern mutation problems.(2) This paper breaks through the limitations of traditional coverage algorithm, and puts forward a parallelogram node coverage algorithm which can find the optimal location of first node, reduce the energy consumption and ensure high coverage ratio.(3) This paper designs water environment monitoring system for WSNs on both PC and android platform which can realize remote and real-time monitoring.
