Since the completion of the Three Gorges Project, it has brought manyconvenience to our life. But at the same time, the water pollution of the Three GorgesReservoir Area is more and more serious. With the popularity of the application ofwireless sensor networks in the field of industrial production and living and learning,there appears a widespread concern over the research on the key technologies of waterenvironment monitoring for the Three Gorges Reservoir based on wireless sensornetworks. However, for the energy-limited feature of wireless sensor networks, theresearch on the energy-saving strategy which can prolong life cycle of the wholenetworks has become one of the most importance among numbers of issues. Theenergy-saving strategies of wireless sensor networks include energy-saving routingstrategy、coverage optimization strategy and data fusion strategy, etc. Our researchwhich is about the coverage optimization strategy based on wireless sensor networks ison the background of the application of water environment monitoring for the ThreeGorges Reservoir Area, and especially for the large-scale regional features of thereservoir. On the basis of analysis and summary of the existing research, the newcoverage optimization strategy of wireless sensor networks based on particle swarmoptimization has been proposed.First of all, we do investigation into the application background of the ThreeGorges Reservoir Area water environment. For the large and widely distributedmonitoring area, and considering the cost, the hybrid wireless sensor networks modelhas been adopted. Making full use of the research findings home and abroad, theparticle swarm optimization algorithm has been chosen to be the coverage optimizationstrategy of the wireless sensor networks.For the disadvantages of existing coverage optimization algorithms, such as earlymaturity、poor convergence performance and easy to fall into local extreme, and basedon the standard particle swarm optimization algorithm, a new algorithm called chaosadaptive particle swarm optimization with constriction factors has been proposed. Thenew algorithm is based on particle swarm optimization model within constrictionfactors, and use chaotic sequence generated by chaotic Tent mapping to initialize andinstead of the original random parameter. And introduce the conception of aggregationdegree for judging, so that the parameters adaption is realized. Experimental results show that the algorithm has better optimization features.To the background of the application of the Three Gorges Reservoir Area waterenvironmental monitoring, we proposed a new coverage optimization strategy of hybridwireless sensor networks based on the above algorithm. And a new conception calledcoverage Boolean Factor has been proposed to build the network model. So thecoverage optimization of hybrid wireless sensor networks for the Three GorgesReservoir Area water environmental monitoring has been achieved.The theoretical analysis and experimental results show that: the proposed coverageoptimization strategy for wireless sensor networks can be applied to the large-scalereservoir, and effectively enhance the coverage and achieve the desired effect of theproject.
