The Adamantane is a new kind of highly symmetrical tricyclic hydrocarbon with cage-like structure, and Adamantane shows a large potential in material modification and chemical engineering because of the good thermostability and dielectric properties. Cyanate ester is a high performance resins which is currently widely used in the aerospace, radomes and electronic packaging materials. So far, the modifications for the cyanate ester resins improve the mechanical properties of cyanate ester resin, but the heat resistance and dielectric properties of cyanate ester resin are reducing at the same time. In this paper, a new kind of adamantane derivatives is designed and synthesized to be used to modify cyanate ester resin, and through the thermal gravimetric analysis, thermodynamic analysis and dielectric testing and the other characterization means to do the research of adamantane modified cyanate ester resin. The result showed that the adamantane can improve the mechanical performance of the CE systems, and the thermostability and the dielectric properties of CE systems maintaining at a high level. The main contents are as follows:1.Anew kind of novel adamantane derivatives-1,3 biuret adamantane (DBA) was successful synthesized. The production rate was 30%.2. The result of the DSC test showed that the curing temperature of resin system drop 80.16℃ by adding the 1,3-Dibiuret-adamantane in the resin system. This result showed that the 1,3-Dibiuret-adamantane can improve the curing process of cyanate ester resin system.3. The TGA tests for DBA/CE systems and the Biuret/CE systems showed that DBA can improve the thermal decomposition temperature of the resin systems(increased 16℃), and the biuret reduces the thermal decomposition temperature of cyanate ester resin system (reduced 98 ℃).4. The result of the DMA tests showed that the glass transition temperature were decreased while the dynamic storage modulus has a certain level of increase, and the glass transition temperature of DBA/CE systems were decreased lesser(reduced 36.98 ℃) than the Biuret/CE systems(reduced 67.77℃).5. The analysis of dielectric constant showed that the dielectric properties of the resin systems can be improved by adding the DBA(the dielectric constant reduced 1.4), and the dielectric properties of the Biuret/CE systems has declined (reduce 0.6).6. The water absorption test of the resin systems showed that the water absorption of the DBA/CE systems was reduced with the increasing of the DBA in the resin system(the water absorption of the BCE-7 was 0.2), and the water absorption of the Biuret/CE systems was increasing with the increasing of the biuret in the resin system(the water absorption of the NewBCE-7 was 0.8).7. The result of the mechanical properties test showed that the tensile modulus, tensile strength and elongation at break of the DBA/CE systems were all improved. And we also do the research to test the mechanical properties of the DBA/CE resin systems which were soaking in deionized water for 240h. Through the comparison, the result showed that mechanical properties of the DBA/CE systems had a lesser extent decrease aftere soaking in deionized water for 240h, the result means that the the DBA/ CE systems have good weathering resistance.
