Upon to now, the activated carbon fixed bed absorption technology is still the most commonly used method for reducing the emission of VOCs(Volatile Organic Compound). Though considered as the simple mechanical structure, easy operation and maintenance, low expenditure, etc., this technology is faced with various of technical bottlenecks, such as obvious decrease of absorption rate as activated carbon is used over time, long desorption and regeneration time, insufficient air contact, increase of standby equipment due to continual operation, etc. Thus a self-seetling activated carbon moving bed absorption device is put forward in this study with the aim to develop an optimized system by solving the above-mentioned problems while retaining the strengths of the activated carbon fixed bed absorption technology.The so-called Self-settling Activated Carbon Moving Bed Absorber is a reactor to hold the gas-solid reaction process. Particles or bulk solid sorbents are put in from the top of the reactor. As the absorption process goes, the solid materials will gradually move downward due to their own gravity until they eventually leak out from the bottom and enter the thermal regeneration device. The exhaust gas with VOCs in it will then go through the solid-bed layer from the bottom up, and act as a reverse flow when contacting the adsorbent, thus the VOCs can be dislodged.On the basis of the current moving bed de-sulfuration technology and fixed-bed activated carbon absorption technology, and with the consideration of specific project conditions, a set of reasonable and practical self-settling activated carbon moving bed absorption technology is developed in this thesis. A research on the activated carbon used for utility devices is made to ensure that it meets the operational requirements of the device, so that the goals of stable operation, good processing effects and easy operation are achieved. Besides, the development of this technology, which will surely contribute to environmental protection, is also an active response to the national appeal to save energy and reduce emission.
