Safety signs are used as an important means of safety management. To a certain extent, people’s behavior is controlled by safety signs. The implementation effect of people’s behavior is determined by the recognition effect of safety signs. The distribution of people’s attention and the conversion between their attentions could be eflected by the eye movement parameters. The current studies on safety signs’ ecognition are limited on qualitative analysis, e. g., questionnaires. Quantitative experimental study based on visual perception and eye tracking technology is still undiscovered. The eye movement parameters gotten during people recognizing safety signs in the case of different factors will be helpful to quantify the influence factors of safety signs recognition. It is suggested that the results obtained in the present study could be used as a reference for the design of the safety signs. In the present study, safety signs and visual cognitive theory are focused as the esearch object and the perspective. The influence of various factors on the safety signs’ ecognition will try to be obtained by using eye tracking technology. And then it could e used as a reference for the design of the safety signs. Firstly, the significance of safety signs’ recognition, as well as its influencing factors-attributes of safety signs ind human were analyzed. Then, four experiments were designed respectively, in the case of these two factors as the controlling factors. Subjects’ eye movement parameters were recorded by using Eyelink II eye tracker and analyzed by statistical methods. Thus he influence of various factors on the safety signs’recognition can be quantified.Study results indicate that, the attention degree of subjects to different shapes and colors vary greatly; the visual cognitive load of safety signs which have auxiliary text is smaller than which without auxiliary text; the recognition of subjects to the safety signs, which have high information content, is the worst, and the recognition to warning signs the best; the recognition effect of subjects first increased and then decreased with advancing age; the recognition effect of female to safety signs is better than males; the ecognition effect of subjects could be improved by enhancing the education level, but will be affected by the relevant job experience easily. This study suggests that, in the process of safety signs’recognition, people’s visual attention and visual cognitive load have been affected by two factors, e. g., attributes ot safety signs including shape, color, auxiliary words, information content and the types of safety signs, attributes of human including age, gender and education level. Thus recognition effect on safety signs will also be affected. Each influence factors should be fully considered in safety signs’ design, so as to make sure the safety signs designed will be suitable to people’s visual recognition features.
