Electrical resistivity is used to represent the various physical quantities of material conductivity. The electrical resistivity of rock and soil is a significant parameter in the aspect of engineering geophysical exploration. Tailings are the residue after ore processing in mining, which belong to artificial soil. And because of its origin being different to natural soil, it’s distinct in particle size distribution,size,shape,physical and chemical properties. In this paper, as the research object to phosphate tailings,according to experiments in lab, discussed the main factor of phosphate tailings soil electrical resistivity and the relationship between the electrical resistivity and the engineering mechanics properties of the soil. Some of positive results are achieved as bellow:(1)Summarizes the current research status on the resistivity of soil at home and abroad, to understand the effect factors, the test method, the structural model of soil resistivity and the relationship between of soil resistivity and soil mechanical properties. On this basis, explores the feasibility of the resistivity method applied to the study of tailing soil.(2)Analyzes the principle of the method of indoortest of the phosphate tailings resistivity which is the research object.(3)Through the indoor testing,the main effects of the phosphate tailings electrical resistivity is researched, the basic feature of the phosphate tailings electrical resistivity is obtained. The results show that the phosphate tailings electrical resistivity goes down as the increase of the water content, temperature, dry density,saturation, but goes up as the increase of the void ratio, median particle diameter.(4)While tests the three axle shear for the phosphate tailings by the facing-lifting three axle shear apparatus, measures the change of electricity resistivity, gets the relationship between cohesion and internal friction angle of the phosphate tailings with the initial resistivity, and its stress and strain-resistivity curve as well. The results shows that,the phosphate tailings electrical resistivity has a decrease tendency as the increase of the water content, temperature, dry density, and the initial resistivity of the phosphate tailings and the shear strength, cohesion,internal friction angle is negative-correlation. In the three axle shear compression process, the electricity resistivity of the phosphate tailings shows a first increased and then decreased trend as the strain increase.(5)While consolidates the phosphate tailings specimen by the consolidation apparatus, measures the change of the resistivity, gets its change rule with other mechanical parameters.(6)Based on the unsaturated soil resistivity model, combined with the physical properties of phosphate tailings, a resistivity model of phosphate tailings has been established.
