The fundamental way of improving water environment was to reduce the amount of the pollutants to the water environment. It is difficult to maximum the effect of the sewage treatment when undue emphasis on water-quality waterworks and without considerding the total reduction of pollutants. So it is necessary to optimize the operation of wastewater with the principle of the maximum to pollutants.The project for the Ding Shan River sewage treatment station, which has the quality and quantity of the water in the river vary greatly in different seasons and weather, to seek a kind of operating mode to maximize pollutant reductions and offer a proposal to the problems which existing in the process of the current situation of sewage plant.First of all, water quality of Ding shan river can be divided into four types through the long-term monitoring of the water quality. The author summarized its characteristics and proposed ways comparing the reduction amount of pollutants under different water quality. Methods were prposed to make the pollution max according to the rules of reducing pollutants.Then, Comparing with the existing process in the wastewater treatment plant, the author analysed the potential of coagulation sedimentation to maximize the reduction of pollution, which revealed that coagulation sedimentation process not only improved the removal of pollutants effectively and also increased the treatment volume by 200-300%. The process was improved with "coagulation sedimentation + biological contact oxidation + water allocation"Finally, the process is optimized through the pilot tests. the author research the influence of water quantity, concentration and processing of different pollutantse on the emission reduction under the condition of different capacity and the river water quality.The experimental results show that the improved process by increasing the flow of water results in greater the pollutant reductions.The improved process could provide a certain amount of practice and advice for the governance of river.
