The problem of inland water pollution is outstanding day by day, thus more and more people begin to fix their eyes on inland water color remote sensing. Periodic monitoring and controlling of water pollution is problem demanding prompt solution, and it has recently become one of research hotspots in both domestic and overseas. Suspended matter is one of the most important parameters in inland water quality monitoring, and it carries water pollutants. Thus monitoring suspended sediment concentration and its distribution is very signality to preventing water pollution. Conventional water quality monitoring is time-consuming and needs great effort, however, monitoring inland water by remote sensing has advantages of wide coverage, short period, long-term dynamic monitoring and low cost. Reservoirs have multiple functions such as water supply, flood control, irrigation and power generation. Reservoirs have great significance in people’s production and life. Therefore, real-time dynamic monitoring water quality by remote sensing has gained remarkable benefits in economy and ecology. As emergency water source of Beijing, Guanting Reservoir was taken as the study area of this article. Four comprehensive experiment has been carried out in Guanting Reservoir. Multi-temporal field measured spectrum data, suspended sediment concentration measured in laboratory and synchronous GF-1 WFV images also has been obtained. This paper put forward improved methods for measuring suspended matter concentration in water based on the method of loss on ignition combined with one-way ANOVA. This method can improve the experiment specifications and operating efficiency with no accuracy degradation. This paper has analysed characteristic of reflectance spectrum and its contributing factor. Then analysed temporal and spatial variation regularity of suspended matter concentration. Measured spectrum data and measured suspended matter concentration have been used in model building of suspended sediment retrieval. The space resolution of GF-1 WFV images has reached 16 m. In this paper, GF-1 WFV images were used as data sources for inversing suspended matter concentration. Inversed suspended matter concentration of homonymy points on GF-1 WFV images were compared with measured suspended matter concentration of sampling points, and the precision evaluation of the model was given in this paper. The average relative error is 9.6%. The inversion results of suspended matter concentration in this paper are satisfactory. Finally, this paper has realized time series retrieval of suspended sediment concentration in Guanting Reservoir from 2013 to 2014. This paper has also analysed temporal and spatial variation regularity based on the inversion results.Research results of this dissertation can be applied to other similar types of inland water, and will promote wide application of GF-1 WFV images in monitoring of suspended sediment concentration of lakes, rivers and reservoirs in different regions.
