Compared with normal sound, ultrasonic has many excellent features such as linear prop-agation, strong penetrating ability and strong power density. When ultrasonic with enough power propagate in fluid, a series of special physical and chemical effects, such as mechanical effects, thermal effects, cavitation effects would be generated. Ultrasonic has been widely used in extracting, degradation, wastewater treatment and many other fields, but there is no report about ultrasonic used in slag system. In the present study, ultrasonic was introduced into slag treatment to examine the feasibility of ultrasonic slag treatment and the influence of ultrasonic on transformation of slag structure and viscosity. This study will lay a foundation for the application of ultrasonic in metallurgy.The results of numerical simulation showed that, under the certain conditions of physical parameter of slag, ultrasonic could cause obvious cavitation effect in the molten slag. Under the condition of ultrasonic conducting from the bottom, the cavitation effect in the top and bottom zone are much stronger than the cavitation effect in the middle zone of molten pool. The flowing velocity of slag is between 0.0001 m·s-1 and 0.1 m·s-1 in the most area of the molten slag pool, but there is a vortex zone in the top zone of the molten pool near the wall, and the velocity here is up to 9 m·s-1.Ultrasonic treatment could induce the structure units with higher degree of polymerization decompose to the ones with lower degree of polymerization, the overall polymerization de-gree of slag is reduced. Besides, the stronger the ultrasonic power, the reduction of the degree of polymerization is more obvious. Under the same power of ultrasonic, the degree of degra-dation of the slag with higher original degree of polymerization is more significant than the slag with lower original degree of polymerization.Ultrasonic treatment could induce the reducing of the slag viscosity, and the more strong-er of the ultrasonic power, the lower of the slag viscosity. After stopping ultrasonic treatment, the viscosity recovers in a short time, and the slag with higher original degree of polymeriza-tion recovers its viscosity faster.Comparing the influences of ultrasonic treatment on slag structure and viscosity, they had obvious consistency, the results proved that treating slag with ultrasonic is feasible.
