Liquid Crystalline Ionomers (LCIs), a kind of polymer with ions and the properties of liquid crystal, are developed into a class of ionic polymers on the basis of liquid crystal polymers and ionomers. Compared with the traditional liquid crystal molecules, integrating the features and functions of some ionic liquids (ILs), LCIs have the characteristics of photochromism, thermochromism, conductivity, electrochromsm, piezoelectric effect, light varieties of mechanical property, mechanical property and chemical stability. Besides, as a new kind of functional polymer material, LCIs are not only well applied in the disciplines of physics, chemistry, materialogy and electronics, but also have the potential application prspects in the field of information, military, printing, optics, composite material and membrane material. In this dissertation, two monomers were synthesized. There were Cholesteryl undec-10-enoate (M1) and Cholesteryl isonicotinate (M2). M1 and 4-Bromo-l-butene were grafted to linear polymethylhydrogensiloxanes. So P1 series of liquid crystalline polymers (LCPs) with different chemical structures and characters were synthesized. P2 series were synthesized by the polymerization of the monomer M2 and P1 series, P7 series were synthesized by the polymerization of 1-Methylimidazole and P1 series, P2 series and P7 series were quaternary ammonium salts. P3 series were synthesized by the substitution reaction of fluoroboric acid and P2 series, P4 series were synthesized by the substitution reaction of hexafluorophosphoric acid and P2 series, P5 series were synthesized by the substitution reaction of trifluoroacetic acid and P2 series, P6 series were synthesized by the substitution reaction of trifluoromethanesulfonic acid and P2 series, Pg series were synthesized by the substitution reaction of fluoroboric acid and P7 series, P9 series were synthesized by the substitution reaction of hexafluorophosphoric acid and P7 series, P10 series were synthesized by the substitution reaction of trifluoroacetic acid and P7 series, P11 series were synthesized by the substitution reaction of trifluoromethanesulfonic acid and P7 series, P3-P6, P8-P11 series were liquid crystalline ionomers. Especially, two liquid crystalline monomers, two series of quaternary ammonium salts and eight series of liquid crystalline polymers were first prepared. So the study of the paper was original. The structures and properties of the obtained liquid crystalline monomers, quaternary ammonium salts and LCPs were investigated by FT-IR spectroscopy,1H-NMR spectroscopy and 13C-NMR spectroscopy. The optical property of all the quaternary ammonium salts and LCPs were investigated by specific rotation analysis (SRA). The phase transition temperature, enthalpy increment and mesogenic texture were studied with differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), polarized optical microscopy (POM) and X-ray analysis. In addition, the electrical performance of all the quaternary ammonium salts and LCPs were investigated by the conductivity meter. The results show that:the chemical structures of the synthesized monomers, all the quaternary ammonium salts and LCPs are consistent with the molecular design. And they exhibit good liquid crystallinity, optical active and electrical properties. Not only do they have important theoreticalvalue, they also provide some theorical basises and necessary technological supports for futher study on LCIs.
