Cotton fabrics has been very popular, because of its good close skin, but there is a disadvantage of low limit oxygen index.In this paper, a new type of non-formaldehyde durable flame retardant for cotton was synthesized by DMMP and 1,2-propanediol. By changing the reactant ratio, the reaction temperature and the amount of catalyst, to get the better reaction conditions, it’s structure was characterized by the1H-NMR,31P-NMR and IR. BTCA and NaH2PO2 were acted as the cross-linking agent and catalyst. Pre-baking, baking and washing was used in the the cotton fabric finishing process padding.The best finishing process was summed up by researching on the influence of the amount of flame retardant, cross-linking agent, pH value and the curing temperature on the performance of flame retardant fabrics,: the amount of flame retardant is 25%,the amount of BTCA is 10%, the amount of catalyst is 5%, the pH value is 5, the curing temperature 155 ℃. The vertical combustion method was used to test the flame retardant performance of the finished fabric, the results show that the flame retardant has a better flame retardant performance, B1 level indicators. The thermal properties of the cotton before and after finishing process had been analyzed by the TGA test results. The IR spectrum was used to compare the original fabric and finished fabrics, there is a ester carbonyl absorption peak appears at 1723cm-1 position. So, the flame retardants and BTCA cross-linked on the cotton fiber surface.After comparing the SEM scanning of the original fabric, flame retardant fabric, fire retardant fabric after soaping,The flame resistant was still kept the original fibrous on the the finished cotton fabric and its carbon layer wasn’t collapsed after burning. Besides the tensile fracture strength, whiteness of the treated fabric and washing resistance were tested, the results showed that the flame-retardant finishing fabric had little impact on the performance. The flame retardant performance still good but, The wash resistance remains to be improved.
