Application Study Of Xiangxi Miao Embroidery Butterfly Pattern In Modern Women Garment

The butterfly pattern is widely applied to the life of all kinds of artifacts because of Miao people’s deep worship of butterfly and best wishes for a happy life, Miao embroidery is one of such kind of forms. The diligent and wisdom Miao people can design and embroider different shapes of butterfly patterns in different sizes and types of fabrics skillfully. For Miao people, it not only reflects the unique traditional culture and aesthetic taste of Miao ethnic minority, but also it is the witness of the history of the Miao ethnic minority; for the modern designer, undoubtedly it provides a large range of design element system which can be traced and explored. Such kind of element is widely used in various types of clothing accessories design after fashion designers’ disintegration and reconstruction, especially in women’s garment design. The thesis made an application study of Xiangxi Miao embroidery butterfly pattern in modern women garment, took field research in the west of Hunan Province, based on the history of Miao embroidery. Firstly the research traces the origin of Miao embroidery and butterfly patterns through spot investigation in Wuling mountainous area, combined with the county annals and some relevant historical documents and materials. Secondly, the thesis analyses the three beauties: natural beauty, harmonious beauty and crafts beauty from the following aspects: Miao embroidery butterfly patterns, color characteristics and process features. Thirdly, the thesis analyses Xiangxi Miao embroidery butterfly pattern in modern women garment from the following three aspects: free beauty of the shape, harmonious beauty of color and craft beauty of the embroidery, with the combining the theory into practice, for the better of demonstrating the theoretical level of recognition and discussion of practical application; and combined with the teaching platform, the research results can guide students to carry out the design and production of the relevant ethnic style women’s series, further to develop the students’ designing ability and inherit ethnic culture; Finally, the thesis demonstrates added-value of modern women garment because of the injection of Xiangxi Miao embroidery butterfly pattern design elements. The case study shows that such kind of design can not only meet the people’s visual enjoyment, but also realize modern women’s high grade demands of clothing, at the same time it drives its application in different fields of design, so that Miao embroidery can gain a wide range of derivative application, highlight its personalized design, manifest the national feeling, carry forward and inherit the tradition and culture of Xiangxi Miao embroidery.
