Coal Chemical Industries is the process of converting coal to gases, liquid, solids or other chemical products via Chemical treatment methods. Long-term operation and most feedstock, semi-products and final products are usually toxic, high pressure, high temperature, flammable and explosive. This mentioned characteristics determined that facility safety operation is concerned as the first priority by constructors and owners. Nevertheless, the intrinsic safety for coal chemical facilities is flaw or overlook are involved during engineering design. In other words, the intrinsic facility safety is determined by the quality of engineering design. And the quality of engineering design is up to the strict and effective quality control of engineering. Following with the large-size and complication of coal chemical industries, the intrinsic facility safety are put more and more attention by engineering company in domestic as well as overseas. This paper will study the ways how to improve the engineering quality through strict and effective engineering quality control method.Based on the practical of ZT coal to methanol project, through analyzing the present design quality control of design check, design review, design changes, interface control and designers sources, which are related with engineering quality in large scale coal chemical industries. By using the project quality control theories and integrated with the features of engineering design, the engineering quality control and improvement measures of the present large scale coal chemical industries are summarized.
