With the problem of energy crisis becoming increasingly prominent, people pay more attention to use of renewable resources to replace fossil energy as raw materials to produce chemicals. Biomass energy is a renewable energy, and effective development and utilization of biomass energy will play a positive role to solve the problem of energy and ecological environment. Cyclopentanone is important chemical raw material to synthesize spice and medicine. Currently, fossil energy is still the main raw material in industrial production of cyclopentanone. Therefore, study synthesis of cyclopentanone from furfural and furfuryl alcohol is of great significance to solve the energy problem.In this paper, the process conditions for cyclopentanone synthesis by hydrogenation rearrangement of furfural and furfuryl alcohol in the presence of metal catalysts has been studied. Firstly, the catalytic performance of Pd/C、Pt/C、Rh/C、 Raney Ni、Raney Cu and Ni-B for this reaction was scanned. Then, Ni-B as catalyst, the effect of different reaction conditions on reaction activity, selectivity and production yield was systematically researched. The synthetic conditions were optimized.The experimental result of furfural hydrogenation rearrangement synthetic cyclopentanone showed under the optimal conditions of Ni-B as catalyst, water as solvent, w(furfural)/w(Ni-B)=50:1, w(furfural)/w(water)=1:10,160℃,4MPa, 600r/min and for 4h, the conversion of furfural was 82%, the yield of cyclopentanone was 73.1%. On the basis of the optimized reaction conditions, three repetitive experiments were operated. The conversion of furfural was 80.6~84.5%, the yield of cyclopentanone was70.6-73.9%, the reaction repeatability was well.The experimental result of furfuryl alcohol hydrogenation rearrangement synthetic cyclopentanone showed under the optimal conditions of Ni-B as catalyst, water as solvent, w(furfural)/w(Ni-B)=50:1, w(furfural)/w(water)=1:8,150℃,3MPa, 600r/min and for 3h, the conversion of furfural alcohol was 96.8%, the yield of cyclopentanone was 89.1%. On the basis of the optimized reaction conditions, three repetitive experiments were operated. The conversion of furfural alcohol was 95.7~97.2%, the yield of cyclopentanone was 86.3~88.7%, the reaction repeatability was well.Under the optimized reaction conditions, the experiment of furfuryl alcohol hydrogenation rearrangement synthetic cyclopentanone was amplified 5 times by using continuous feed. The conversion of furfural alcohol was 94.7%, the yield of cyclopentanone was 90.1%. It showed that this process has the potential of industrial production, but still needed further research.
