In this work, the artificial Na-montmorillonites were chosen as the raw materials to prepare the anionic-nonionic organo-montmorillonites with the solution intercalation method. The organic modifiers are sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate(SDBS) and nonionic surfactant alkylphenol ethoxylates(OP-10). The characterizations of synthesized anion-nonionic organic montmorillonite were analyzed by X-ray diffraction(XRD), scanning electron microscope(SEM), contact angle, differential thermal analysis-thermo-gravimetric analysis(DTA-TG), and the swell index, colloid fraction, viscosity and thixotropy of anionic-nonionic OMt in The different polarity organic solvents were studied. Finally, the propertities of anionicnonionic organo-montmorillonites in alkyd varnish and nitrocellulose lacquer were studied.(1) The anionic-nonionic organo-montmorillonites were successfully prepared using OP-10 and SDBS; SEM showed clearly layer stripping better than the cationic organic montmorillonite; the result of TG-DTA showed that the thermal stability of anionic-nonionic organo-montmorillonites was higher than the cationic organic montmorillonite, and the increase of SDBS can improve the thermal stability. The contact angle showed the polarities of anionic-nonionic organo-montmorillonites were higher than the cationic organic montmorillonite.(2) The swell index of anionic-nonionic organo-montmorillonites increased with increase of polarity. The increase of OP-10 could increase the swell index, while cation organo-montmorillonites first increase and then decrease. The anionic-nonionic organo-montmorillonites had the good dispersibility in high polarity organic solvent and the colloid rate could reach the 99 mL, while the dispersibility of cation organomontmorillonites was poor.(3) The result in in different polarity coatings showed that the hardness achievesd 2H. In the alkyd coating, the coating of cation organo-montmorillonites was thicker, while the viscosity of anionic-nonionic organo-montmorillonites was larger. In nitrocellulose coating, the coating of anionic-nonionic organo-montmorillonites was thicker, and the thermal stability of anionic-nonionic organo-montmorillonites was higher than the cationic organic montmorillonite. Moreover, the sinking speed of nitrocellulose coating was slower than alkyd coating, and anionic-nonionic organomontmorillonites could slow down the sink of above two coatings.
