Due to the unique viscoelastic properties of polymer materials, it has been widely used to absorb noise, reduce vibration and in the field of industrial applications. With the continuous improvement of the modern industrial requirements, the polymer damping materials not only should have a wide of effective damping temperature range and high damping factor value, but also should have some special physical properties to improve its application rage, such as high abrasion resistant and slide performance. This paper selected brombutyl rubber (BIIR) as the matrix material firstly, studying the effect of cure system and silica pre-treatment on the structure and properties of BIIR; secondly, BIIR and 1,4-cis polybutadiene rubber (BR) were blend matrix materials, study the effect of two promoter systems and the different ratio of matrix on the processing properties, mechanical properties and abrasion properties of BIIR/BR blends; lastly, the C5 petroleum resin was selected as the damping modifier, which was used in preparing the BIIR/BR/C5 composites, study the effect of C5 loading on vulcanization characteristics, damping properties, structure and mechanical properties of BIIR/BR/C5 composites. The vulcanization characteristics of damping materials were tested by foam force rheometer. The relation between structure and properties were studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) and the measurements of mechanical properties. As shown in the study of vulcanization characteristics, with the increase of sulfur loading, the optimum cure time (t90) and scorch time (ts2) shortened, the crosslink density increased; with the increase loading of Si69 pretreated for silica, the cure rate and Mooney viscosity declined, the t90 extended, the crosslink density reached the peak value with 2phr Si69. As shown in the mechanical properties study, the BIIR vulcanizate with 1:1 DM/TMTM, lphr sulfur and 2phr Si69 pre-treat for silica had better mechanical properties and no yellowing phenomenon. As shown on the curves of DMA test, with the increment of sulfur or Si69 loading, the glass transition temperature (Tg) rose and the loss peak shifted to high temperature direction, but the loss peak value (tanδmax) declined. As shown in properties comparison of different ratios BIIR/BR with two promoter systems, the cure rate and crosslink density of blends with the DM/TMTM system were higher than the blends with DM/TMTM/NS system; the mechanical properties of the DM/TMTM/NS system were better, but the DIN abrasion loss of DM/TMTM/NS system were higher than the DM/TMTM system. With the increment of BR ratio, the t90 shortened, the process and abrasion properties improved of BIIR/BR blends with two promoter systems, and in the DM/TMTM/NS system, the combination properties of 30/70 ratio of BIIR/BR vulcanizate were optimum. The C5 could retard the vulcanization, and reduce the crosslink density and Mooney viscosity of blends; with increment content of C5, the main tanβ peak shifted significantly to higher temperatures and the effective damping temperature range was broadened remarkably; the tensile strength improved to the peak value with the content of C5 increasing up to lOphr, the elongation at break and DIN abrasion loss increased, but DIN abrasion changed slightly with 5-15phrC5.In conclusion, the BIIR damping material with optimum properties could prepared by the 1:1 DM/TMTM ratio, lphr sulfur and 2phr Si69; the BIIR/BR/C5 damping blends with widely temperature, high damping and abrasion properties could prepared by DM/TMTM/NS promoter system,30/70 ratio between BIIR and BR and 10-15phr C5.
